At Shane’s Trees, we turn most of the trees we cut down into wood chips – and sometimes we’re happy to give it away to you for free! You can use it for garden mulch or to spruce up areas surrounding your property that might be a bit sparse or neglected.

Why Wood Chip Mulch?
At Shane’s Trees, most of the trees we cut down are still alive and green. This means the wood still has water within it and can’t be used for firewood. It would take several months to dry the wood sufficiently for use in a fireplace.
As well as making your garden look nicer, wood chips make transport and removal of trees from our job sites much easier. The small pieces are easy to pack in the back of a tipper truck, rather than loading on branches that take up too much space.
Wood Chip Mulch Delivery Costs…
While we’re happy to give wood chips away for free, we still need to cover the staffing and equipment costs for the delivery. Here are our current costs:
Deliveries within the Sutherland Shire: $250 + gst
Deliveries across Sydney and Wollongong: $350 + gst
At the moment, we only make deliveries to people who need a full LR tipper truckload of mulch – this is about 15m³ / 4 tons (approximately 60x green bins). If you need a smaller amount, we have a designated pick up area in the Sutherland Shire where you can fill up your trailers with as much mulch as you’d like!
Shane’s Trees offer FREE WOODCHIP MULCH DELIVERY to residents or business in the Sutherland Shire area and Surrounding Suburbs.
Currently, we only make deliveries to those requesting a full LR tipper truckload of Mulch. For everybody else needing smaller amounts, we have a designated pick up area where anyone can come and bring their trailers to fill up with as much as you like. Removing this tree waste can be both a timely and costly process so it is necessary for the arborist to find the most efficient means of doing this task. One of the nice things about tree waste is that it can be processed and used for other things such as Firewood, or turned into woodchip and used as garden mulch or for area beautification. Most of the trees we cut down, (though not all) are still alive or still green. This means the wood still has water within it and it is not good for firewood at this time. It may take several months to dry the wood sufficiently for use in a fireplace which is ok if it’s the end of winter or the warmer months when it is not needed straight away.
Often a client will just ask to have green timber left in a corner of the yard to dry out for use at a later date and this helps eliminate some of the removal costs. For arborists like us, always trying to get rid of waste we are more than happy to give away Free Green Firewood to cut down on our own expenses when removing trees.
There are many reasons why we use wood chipping as a part of the tree removal process. Firstly, it is great for reusing around gardens both in a domestic or commercial setting. Native Wood chip not only makes terrific mulch but also can be used to beautify or spruce up neglected areas with very little effort. Secondly, it makes transport and removal from the job site much easier. This is because it creates small pieces that are easy to pack in the back of a tipper truck, rather than loading on branches that would create a lot of unused space. It also saves time because fewer truckloads are needed to remove the same amount of waste.

Some factors that might affect your quote…
The size of your tree. Generally, the bigger it is, the longer it takes to remove – and the more space vegetation takes up in our trucks!
Ease of access. Trees around properties with steep embankments are often difficult to load onto vehicles.
Equipment needed. Certain projects require the use of barges, cranes and even helicopters which may be reflected in your quote.
